The Jaguar XK series perfectly mixes luxury and sport, with a design and feel that’s resolutely British too.

The XK comes in three models, the XK Signature, XK Dynamic R and XKR-S. Every one of these features all-aluminium body structure, runs off a 5.0 V8 power plant and is available as Coupé or Convertible.

The Convertible option allows you to enjoy summer days in total luxury, while the Coupé offers more in the way of power and grand tourer style.

Most of the features that one would expect in a car of this standard are there; six speed gearbox with intelligent shifting software, and electronic damping to provide immaculate road holding and performance.

Elsewhere, the convertible roof stows away in some 18 seconds. Intriguingly, some 50% of the body is made from recycled aluminium, which also adds to the environmental credentials of this vehicle.

Keyless entry, leather seats, a glowing red start button in the centre of the console; these are some of the elements we have come to expect from top level performers. Dashboard illumination comes in a phosphor blue shade, and a 7 inch touch screen organises bluetooth, satnavs and climate control.

Once you’ve pressed the start button, the JaguarDrive Selector rises out of the centre console. It’s a chrome control which accesses Sport or Drive mode and alters selectable modes to suit your driving style. You could choose from winter mode too, which dampens acceleration and applies more gradual traction.

The XK series is not cheap, coming in at some £54,975 for the basic model and rising to £97,490 for a fully featured XKR-S Coupé. Last year, supported by a team from Jaguar’s Engineered To Order (ETO) division, the exclusive XKR-S GT recently completed a lap of the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in a remarkable 7 minutes and 40 seconds.

Auto Express Editor-in-Chief Steve Fowler said: “The Jaguar XK has once again proved to be a big hit among owners for its performance. But it’s not all about how fast it can go from 0-62mph, as it’s also praised highly for its build quality, ease of driving and ride quality. This is proof that Jaguar XK is an all-rounder.”
