As you know Hartley was born in Palmerston North. His father, Bryan, had raced in many kinds of motorsports like in Formula Atlantic. At the age of six, Hartley started his motor racing career in kart racing, following his elder brother, who was faster, and Brendon still remembers the wakeful nights that followed. Then he realised that he can’t lose. He wants to win. In everything he does. At the age of 16, he went to Europe. Hartley took up quarters in Germany and raced in Formula Renault in the German and European Championships. And by the age of 19, he already had 13 years’ experience as a racing driver.

He gained a lot of experience when he got his first GT series win, for Herberth Motorsport, in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2015. This is the second participation of the champion Hartley, with the Porsche 991 GT3-R. Besides Brendan Hartley, who won with a GT automobile in the race 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2013, Angel Benitez Jr. competed with the JDX Racing/Hertz Porsche in a competition with 24 Porsche GT3 Cup cars, whose main sponsor was the Hertz Company.

Hertz has sponsored various sports events for the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). However, we are yet to see the company try to enter F1 where they might actually work with Hartley himself.

When Hartley made it to Formula 1 in 2009, he became part of the Red Bull Racing team as a 3rd driver. Over the next few years, he took part in other championships mentioned above while still remaining in Formula 1 as a test pilot or a 3rd driver.

During this period, we mark some stints with Toro Rosso and Mercedes. Eventually, 2017 came and Hartley was ready to make his Formula 1 debut in Austin, Texas.
