What are the Benefits of Tire Rotation?

When it comes to tire rotation, it is important to highlight all the methods depending on the way your car is powered.

Before we get to that, it is only fair that we mention the actual benefits of switching the places of your tires. Doing such a thing will allow your tires to wear evenly. This will definitely also prolong their life and render them more effective.

So where’s the catch? Well, depending on the driving method of your vehicle, there’s a specific rotation to do. This is especially important when it comes to used cars and used tires because you might not know for how long, any given tire set has been used in this position. So, now that we are familiar with the main benefits of tire rotation, let’s see how it needs to be done.

Rear Wheel Drive
In this case, you are obviously moving the rear tires to the front. What is important, however, is the fact that these two tires do not switch sides. That’s because the driving wheels never have to make turns, so each of them is fine staying on the same side.
It’s a whole different story when we talk about the front wheels. Of course, they go to the back side. But we will also have to swap their positions.

Front Wheel Drive
The way to do it here is to copy the method explained above. Your rear wheels again move to the front but this time you will have to move the right one to the left and vice versa. Your front tires go to the back but they keep their respective side.

Directional Tires
Since the tread pattern here matters the most, we cannot switch the sides of the tires. They only move front and back but must keep their sides at a 100%.

What If You Have a 4x4?
The formula here is actually rather simple. Since all wheels are powered, you would want to switch their positions completely. This is done in an X-shaped manner. The front wheels go to the back and swap positions. The rear tires go to the front and again – their sides are also switched.
