When most customers think of Hertz, they don’t always think of vans. The truth is, however, that we sell and rent some of the best valued, reliable and competitively priced used vans in the market.

A van can often be a good choice, primarily, if it is useful to you in a work environment. People tend to overlook the fact that they often need extra space or cargo room in a vehicle in their personal lives too, making van an excellent choice. There are many different sizes of vans available at Hertz; from the comparatively small Vauxhall Combo for those in need of a little extra space; all the way up to the Ford Transit Tail Lift, for those who need a professional, large vehicle for their businesses.

All vans can be split into four categories:

1. Micro vans, such as the aforementioned Vauxhall Combo;

2. Car- derived vans, which are based on the chassis of an ordinary car and come in many shapes and sizes;

3. Pickups, which are large 4×4 type vehicles with a small cabin, an open body and low sides, and

4. Panel vans, such as the aforementioned Ford Transit.

The first choice to make is whether you want to purchase a van, or rent one. If you need a van for a specific job and are unlikely to use it again, then of course it is a better idea to rent, rather than purchase. But, if your business or home life dictates a frequent need for these vehicles, it might just turn out to be less expensive to just buy, rather than hire every single time. If you are finding yourself using a van every week for one day, or even every other week, rental costs will really add up. Having a van at your disposal can also be a brilliant idea for added ease and security.

Once you have decided the type of van you wish to rent or buy, you can start looking at models at your local dealership. It is important, whilst in this stage, to remember the rules of buying or renting used cars, and to know what your needs and requirements are. Some of the most important rules are, checking the mileage, the emergency brakes, the engine, oil and anti-freeze levels, the gearbox, and the strength and age of the tyres.

And remember, before you buy your van, it is important to thoroughly check all paper work pertaining to the vehicle, and make sure that you end up with one that is safe, reliable and perfect for you.
